I’m Nicole Birch, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) with over five years of experience. My journey to becoming a lactation consultant was born out of my own breastfeeding struggles as a new mom. I turned to my WIC nutritionist for guidance, and through that experience, I learned that lactation consulting was an actual profession.
Growing up in the Trinidad, breastfeeding was always the norm, so I naturally expected it to be a smooth experience. However, my own challenges with breastfeeding taught me the importance of education and support. After struggling with latch issues for the first week, I persisted, and eventually, breastfeeding became a rewarding journey that lasted 18 months. I was amazed by the health benefits for my baby and the special bond it created between us.
My passion for lactation consulting truly ignited when I became a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor through WIC. I later completed the Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) course as a precursor to my clinical training to become a Lactation Consultant, ultimately earning my IBCLC certification in 2020.
My mission is to empower families with the knowledge and support they need to navigate their breastfeeding journeys, starting from the prenatal period. Had I known what I know now, my own breastfeeding experience would have been different. I’m committed to helping other parents avoid unnecessary struggles, advocating for breastfeeding to be normalized and embraced in all communities.
I’m particularly passionate about offering support to families who lack resources at home and helping them feel confident in their breastfeeding choices. One of my goals is to open a business dedicated to providing lactation education and support services to those in need.
Every mother is a source of life, and it’s my mission to celebrate and support them as they nourish their babies from their own body.
